With the holiday season just beginning, many parents have serious concerns about the recent recall of nearly one million toys, because of lead paint. While Santa’s Elves are hard at work, checking their incoming wish lists twice, parents are wondering how they will be able to keep their children happy and safe at the same time. Recent news reports of toys already on the list seem to be growing by the day, and Mattel and Fisher Price, already topping the list of “must have toys”, are feeling the heat.
This holiday season’s electronic toys are designed for a hybrid play experience in both the real and virtual worlds, interactive toys and classic toys with fun new twists. Mattel and Fisher-Price’ holiday toy line-up features new ways for kids to play, new technologies and interactivity, as well as delivering basic play experiences fundamental to a child’s development. This year’s tech toys, gadgets and games are sure to top holiday wish lists, with favorites including Barbie Girls and U.B. Funkeys, offering a hybrid play experience in both the real and virtual worlds, Pixel Chix Roomies and IM-Me for techno-savvy girls, and I Can Play Guitar for aspiring young rock stars. Younger kids can also get connected with Easy Link Internet Launch Pad and Digital Arts and Crafts Studio.
Concerned parents are wondering if the new gadgets and toys their children desire will be safe, as lead poisoning can permanently harm children. As you search through your children’s toy box, are you thinking about talking to your pediatrician for a lead poisoning test? Any parent who suspects that the toys have injured their child should call the CPSC hotline at (800)638-2772. Visit the “US Consumer Product Safety Commission” for a full list of recalled toys. For Infant/Child Product Recalls (not including toys), the US Consumer Product Safety Commission has another extensive list.
The best thing that parents can do is stay informed of recalls of toys and products, removing recalled items and toys from their homes. It would be even better to seek out toys made and manufactured in the United States, which can be found on these Websites:

These recalls are getting out of hand. I’m afraid that this is only the beginning and we’re going to see alot more as we get into the Christmas time. I now go to http://www.leadtoyrecalls.com every day to make sure I have the latest news.
It’s also got guidelines for toy safety and a list of safe lead-free made in USA toys and where to buy them.

Anonymous, thank you for that link, I wasn’t aware of that one. I am also concerned that the recalls will only increase as we near Christmas.
Although I don’t have small children anymore, I do have a couple young kids that we buy for, so I do pay close attention to these recalls for their sake. Thank you for your comment and link.
