My fingers are typing away like mad, easily creating awesome posts that are sure to be Stumbled, followed by tons of traffic and comments, but then I wake up. Darn. I wake up realizing I’ve been typing in my sleep, and the posts I’ve “written” are upcoming posts still stuck in my head. Oh the horror! Does this happen to you?
I’ve got some great posts stuck in my head, but time constraints and family responsibilities sometimes keep me so busy that I’m unable to get anywhere near my computer for more than a day or two. That in itself creates anxiety in me, pondering the pro-blogger reminder notes I have piled up on my desk, in my purse, on the bathroom vanity, all reminding me of key points and keywords to use for posts still unwritten. Using keywords and other SEO tricks is another thing I’m trying to learn more about. Oh to be blessed with not having to hold down a full-time job whilst being a blogger.
Using Images in Posts on Wordpress-
Now that my blog is on Wordpress, there are a number things I’m trying to learn how to do (when I’m actually awake) that are very puzzling to me. Using images in posts is quite fun and really adds visual appeal, and I thoroughly enjoy the ability to use images found on Flickr. I have yet to figure out how to add a space after the image thus creating a good separation between image and subsequent text, but I will figure it out soon. I’ve done several searches online for information on the How-To with images, but after reading several comments of people saying the instruction wasn’t working, I thought I’d just ask my readers who use Wordpress.

I’m also in process of learning how to wrap text around images in Wordpress. At the moment, the best I can do is have images centered within my posts, with text above and below the image but that’s it. When I was on Blogger, it was quite simply a matter of using some HTML codes, but I can’t seem to get any of those to work right. I’m waving the White Flag in hopes that a very nice (and patient) Wordpress expert can enlighten me on the finer points of using images in Wordpress, and how to wrap text around images. Update: I think I’ve found a good source of info on this one, so I’ll be testing it out.
Using Wordpress Plugins-
Snoskred was kind enough to add several important Wordpress plugins when she moved my Blogger blog to Wordpress. Although I’m not quite sure what they all are for or what they do, I have complete confidence in her knowledge and abilities in selecting which plugins to use on my blog.
Spam, Scrapers and Sploggers-
I’ve received an increased number of what appear to be comments to a post on my blog, only to find they include a brief snippet of text from my post (along with a link to my post) from their site. I don’t know what to make of this. I recently had someone who blatantly stole my content while still on Blogger and I took care of that twit rather quickly, but this sort of thing is totally new to me. Not yet having a full understanding of Ping Backs and Track backs etc, I’m not sure if what I’m experiencing is scrapers and sploggers, but I’ll figure that out soon too.
Upcoming Posts-
Now that I’m positive that I’m awake, I’m working on upcoming posts that I hope you’ll enjoy and want to participate in. If you haven’t yet subscribed to my blog, I hope you’ll do so now either by RSS feed or by email.
My most recent post on “how much television is too much television for children” brought quite a few visitors and comments of varying opinion. Your relevant comments are welcome if you’ve not yet had a chance to read that post. I’ve had some recent discussion with Rob about the role that technology has played in the lives of today’s children and teens, so I’ll be doing a post relating to that discussion and my thoughts on that topic very soon.

HI, Lin. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I can appreciate your struggles. I’m right there with ya! About images, I find I’m not very good with using the WP editor (not just for images really, but text formatting too). So what I use is Windows Live Writer. If you use Windows, it’s great. Free and easy to install and use. I love it for its WSYWIG editor and for the simplicity and ease of inserting, resizing and positioning pictures in posts. I will be happy to help you if you decide to install it and use it. I prefer it to WP’s own editor, or even the WP plug-in editors they offer. Incidentally, I’ve learned a lot at Snoskred. Great resource! One final thing — I like your blog’s design. Clean and easy to navigate.
