8 Random Things About Me

May 14th, 2008 · 12 Comments

8 Random Things About MeI haven’t participated in any meme’s for awhile now, so when Rudy tagged me with the “8 Random Things About Me” meme, I figured I’d play along this time. It’s taken me a few days to think about what to include in this meme post, but I think I’ve come up with a few things that may make this at least somewhat interesting for my readers, with a little bit of help from my archives.

Here are the rules:

  1. Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves.
  2. People who are tagged, write a blog post about their own 8 random things, and post these rules.
  3. At the end of your post you need to tag 8 people and include their names.
  4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment and tell them they’ve been tagged, and to read your blog post.

8 Random Things About Me:

1. I read a lot. At this moment, I have five books stacked on my nightstand still waiting to be read, not including the extra book in my recent book giveaway that I’ve already read from cover to cover.

2. I hate to cook. I do not enjoy cooking, but my Strawberry Shortcake recipe seriously kicks butt, and is a true winner in my family. I find no pleasure in preparing main meals, but when I make desserts, cakes and cookies, the smiles on my kids faces tell me all I need to know.

3. My husband and I used to have our very own Bar-B-Q Restaurant, and my hubby’s beef, pulled pork and ribs were the talk of the town. The hours we both put into the restaurant, working our pork butts off from early morning till late at night, eventually made us decide we needed to have our lives back and we closed the restaurant.

4. My friends and family think I’m pretty funny (my daughter says I’m “hysterical”). My sense of humor is somewhat sarcastic, and I love Bill Cosby, Jeff Foxworthy and Larry The Cable Guy. Fortunately, my crazy sense of humor hasn’t gotten me into much trouble. Yet.

Whack A Mole5. To this day I still retain my title as Reigning Queen of Whack-a-mole! No one has been able to beat me whacking those little mole heads that pop up randomly at the arcade we used to hang out at on weekends. Family and friends were very sure of themselves in their numerous attempts to take my crown from me, but they’ve always failed. hehehe

6. I’m also pretty awesome at Air Hockey, and my oldest son took great delight in finally………being able to beat me playing Air Hockey. Problem was…, it took him until his 21st Birthday to accomplish the task. Momma Rocks at Air Hockey! Laughing

7. I love to dance, and nothing gets me on the dance floor faster than hearing the beginning notes to “She’s a Brick… House”. It doesn’t matter where I am, even when I’m at work, the moment that songs comes on the radio I start moving.

8. I sing, and I’m pretty darn good at it. I have recording equipment that allows my hubby to record me singing, and he listens to the CD’s of my songs in his car. I won the Grand Prize at a singing contest a couple of years ago, and the lady that used to win each year was none too happy about the standing ovation I received. I sound like Wynonna Judd and Bonnie Raitt, from what I’ve been told numerous times.

I’m going to tag: Joeprah; Lynnae; Matt; David Finch; Lightening; Rob; Todd; Megan. Sorry all, rules are rules.

It sounds like you’ve spent a lot of time in arcades with the kids.

K well.. I know it doesn’t really tie in with the theme of your blog, but let’s hear you sing! I don’t know Wynonna Judd much but I love Bonnie Raitt :D

Do you guys still make the food you used to make at the restaurant? Also, who does the cooking then? Hubby? Or do you do it but just not enjoy it?

HM, having six kids means you have to find a variety of ways to entertain them, and the arcade we used to go to had a plethora of games that weren’t violence related, but were just fun and made everyone laugh. It was a good time for sure. :)

FG, lalalalalalala, how’s that?! hehehe My voice does have the same tone as Wynonna and Bonnie, so whenever I do those type songs everyone seems to enjoy them.

We do continue to make the foods we made at the restaurant, as many of them were our personal and top secret recipes. I still get people asking for our BBQ Sauce recipe.

My husband is a much better cook than I am, so he does quite a bit of the cooking, while I make things like lasagne (a family favorite) and a few other things. Every summer I’m bombarded by requests for me to make strawberry shortcake almost every weekend, but not wanting to add inches to the waistline, I make it a couple times over the summer along with some yummy cookies and cakes.

My husband can grill a steak like no one else, and his beats out the steak themed restaurants hands down. Guess what I had for Mother’s Day? :) Yum!

Thanks for doing the meme, Lin. Good to know ya!

Like me and Periapex, you should go ahead and change the lyrics of “Brick House” from The Commodores. Looks like another meme… ;-)

Hi Rudy, it was fun to do this meme. Thanks for tagging me with this one. :)

Kim, I’ll have to figure out how to do a MP3 post, as I’m clueless about that. Now I’m getting nervous. :)

    You’re welcome, Lin. I’m glad I can “help”. ;-)

    Hi Lin,

Reading your 8 random things just adds to my impression of what a fun life it sounds like you and your family lead.

It’s funny how the mind works. After reading your post I’m suddenly hungry, and the Judds song “Turn it Loose” will probably be stuck in my head for the rest of the day (lol, I’m not even sure why that particular song is the one that popped up).

Anyhow, hope you’re having a great weekend, and thanks for tagging me, I’ll give it a think and see if can post something in the next day or two.

Todd, it stays pretty crazy around here. Jokes just seem to fly out of me spontaneously, and without much forethought. I’ve tried a couple of times to write posts that show my sense of humor clearly in order to help readers see me as I really am (despite the heavy stories I write about sometimes), but once I’ve written them and read them over again, they just seem to be a real dud so I delete them without publishing them. I’m glad this post at least showed my silly and humorous side, as that is mostly who I am.

Hey Lin, thanks for thinking of me! I actually was tagged on the “8 Things” meme a few months back! You can see my post about it here:
