Most Popular Blog Posts

When I decided to start a blog with my very first blog post more than two years ago, I didn’t know anything about creating a blog where I could share parenting advice, marriage and relationship advice etc, but I knew that starting a blog that wasn’t just a personal blog all about me was something I was/am passionate about and I look forward to creating many more popular blog posts in 2009.

As we ring in the New Year, I’d like to share some of the most popular blog posts from Telling It Like It Is, based on popularity, number of views and/or comments, and a few of my personal favorites thrown in for good measure.

Blog Theme Change and New Blog Hosting Company

Please pardon our dust

I’ve been toying around with the idea that it was time to change blog themes for Telling It Like It Is for awhile now, so when circumstances arose for me to get a new hosting company for the site, I began researching WordPress Magazine Themes to find one I liked.

The new theme and new hosting server will happen very soon, so I’m giving visitors and subscribed readers the heads up that things are about to look a bit different around here.

After spending a few weeks looking at a wide variety of free WordPress themes, especially free magazine themes for WordPress blogs, I’m excited and relieved that I didn’t have to purchase a premium WordPress theme in order to be happy with the new look.

The Visionary Magazine Theme it is! There are many things I like about the Visionary theme for WordPress blogs, but I’m most excited about implementing some of the best WordPress plugins for WordPress blogs, if not the best WordPress plugins that will be used with the new theme.

For starters, the CommentLuv plugin will allow a blogger’s most recent blog post to appear in the comment section along with your comment, which helps to showcase your own posts for anyone interested in your topic, including me. That’s just one way I have found a variety of blogs to subscribe to myself, and I am thrilled to begin using CommentLuv with the new theme.

Related Posts plugin! Yes! I’ve been having to manually add each and every related post link within each article, and have been routinely digging back into my archived posts to edit in new related post links as well. But no more of that time-consuming nonsense!

I get emails from search engine visitors on a regular basis asking permission to share one or more of my articles/posts with a friend or relative, especially those related to the “helping vs. enabling” and “Entitlement Epidemic” articles, so I’m hoping to include an easy way for visitors and subscribed readers to share blog post articles of interest by email and the ability to print off articles whenever someone chooses to.

There may be a bit of tweaking to do with the new theme, so please pardon our mess while everything is put in its proper place. Anytime there is a change in blog hosting companies, there is the possibility of a few lost comments initially, but hopefully we’ll luck out and not lose any at all.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of my subscribed readers and visitors. I’m taking a little Christmas break to enjoy the holidays with family and friends, but I’ll be back after the first of New Year 2009. If you haven’t yet subscribed, or you’re here for the very 1st time, now would be a great time to subscribe to Telling It Like It Is and join in on the fun.

Have a very Merry Christmas with all you hold dear. Stay safe and warm, don’t drink and drive, and we’ll see you back here soon.

We Wish You a Merry Christmas Song

Update: I know I said above that I would be taking a break until after New Year’s, but the story about the Marley and Me movie being ruined for moviegoers couldn’t be ignored. I may not post until after New Year’s, but maybe I will. We’ll see.

ConnectContent Relevant Targeted Backlinks From Connect Content

ConnectContentPardon me a brief diversion from posting my normal content about family and relationships to tell you about ConnectContent, which has just been launched to help bloggers and website owners get relevant, keyword targeted backlinks from like-minded Connect Content users.

I prefer not to write content about “blogging”, and I won’t be making a practice of it, but anyone with a website or blog needs to know about ConnectContent.

As much as I’d like to refer to ConnectContent as a blog network for bloggers and website owners, especially when you consider how popular blog networks are, I would be remiss in doing so.

What is ConnectContent?

ConnectContent is a search engine community network comprised of individuals and other entities who desire the same thing: Relevant backlinks, containing relevant keyword targeted anchor terms, which point to their websites or to the individual pages of their websites or blogs.

Members of ConnectContent tell other members what keyword terms they want used when linking to each others blogs or websites. For those that don’t know, keyword terms are the words people type into their browser when searching for information of interest to them.

Unfortunately, not everyone with a blog or website understands what relevant targeted linking is all about. The benefits of using targeted keyword terms to link to other relevant websites or blogs is why ConnectContent was created. Not all links are created equal.

Give Good Links, Not Bad Links

Linking to websites or blogs using anchor text like “click here” or “click this link” or “go to this page” isn’t worth much in search engine optimization (SEO). Telling It Like It Is ranks very well for a variety of targeted keywords, including my name, blog title and other terms I’ve worked hard to build.

Some keyword terms people use that bring them to this site would make you sick to your stomach, so I won’t even hint at those. Blogs about cell phones or cheap phone calls would link to other relevant blogs using targeted keywords, not “click here”.

ConnectContent is new, but it’s not free. Participation in the ConnectContent managed network requires a low monthly fee of $12.00 (U.S.), or $120.00 for a year (a savings of $24.00 over the monthly fee), and I highly recommend bloggers and website owners get involved and join ConnectContent now. Now I can get back to posting my normal content.

The One Dollar Give: One Dollar Can Make A Lot of Difference

The One Dollar Give Have you heard about the One Dollar Give project? Today is December 4th, and the Christmas season is upon us in full force, with shoppers going about their business in search of Christmas gifts for loved ones.

I love Christmastime and it’s my favorite time of year. I’m not immune to getting caught up in the hustle and bustle (commercialism) of the holiday season and you can bet the stores love me for it. The holiday season is also a time of year where I look for a variety of ways to give back by making donations to good causes and charities.

When I published the article about Christmas toy donations for needy children, I had no idea there would be more people in need of donations reading that article vs. the number of people who have read the article with the desire to donate to those less fortunate than themselves. People and charities and hurting and there’s something we can do about it.

Thanks to Mandi from Doodle’s Place and Tara from Deal Seeking Mom, who came up with the One Dollar Give idea, I’ve found another good cause and it’s my hope you will do what you can to help as well.

The One Dollar Give, found at www.onedollargive.com, was launched on December 1st and it’s mission is to shine a bright light on a blogger’s favorite charity each and every day during the month of December. Readers are encouraged to donate just one dollar a day for each featured charity for a total donation of just $31.00.

Just think of all the good that can be accomplished if we each donate just one dollar a day during the month of December to the One Dollar Give project. How much difference can $1.00 make? A huge difference in the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves.

The economy is bad and charities are in serious need of support, so I’m asking you to join me in supporting the One Dollar Give project by donating a dollar a day to the project to help those in need during the month of December.

If you are unable to help financially and you have a blog, you can still show your support by grabbing the button on the One Dollar Give sidebar and placing it on your own blog, or talk about the project on Twitter along with a link for others to get involved.

Even though it’s already the 4th of December, I’ve pledged the full $31.00 and I hope you will find a way of supporting this great cause as well. Remember, there is greater joy in giving than there is in receiving.
