Swine Flu School Closings: Fort Worth ISD, Lewisville, Ponder, Plano, Frisco, Dallas, Carrollton, Denton

I’ve been paying close attention to the Swine Flu school closings in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, especially since I live in Plano TX myself. Swine Flu (H1N1) concerns has lead Fort Worth ISD to close all schools in the district, with Lewisville ISD and Ponder ISD following suit.

The Swine Flu debate rages on, in regards to whether or not school districts and officials are overreacting to the Swine Flu/H1N1 outbreak, especially since Dallas ISD has yet to close all schools at least temporarily, and hearing the word “pandemic” from health officials is quite unsettling for everyone.

Tawnell Hobbs, a Dallas ISD reporter, recently asked if school districts are overreacting to the “swine flu thing” on her blog:

“We’re trying to understand why school districts have reacted differently to this swine flu thing. Here’s what some districts are doing:

*Dallas is closing Daniel Webster Elementary after one student tested positive for the virus.

*Fort Worth ISD decided to close all of its campuses after one student tested positive for swine flu. Three students in the district also are listed as “probable” for having the virus.

*Cleburne ISD decided to close all of its campuses because four students could possibly have the virus.

*Lewisville ISD shut down a campus because three students possibly have it.”

The discussion in the comments section on Tawnell’s post from readers pretty much sums up what I’ve thought about the school closings in Fort Worth, Ponder, Lewisville as well as other cities and suburbs.

Ever heard the phrase, “damned if you do and damned if you don’t”? Schools that make the decision to close due to concerns about Swine Flu are said to be overreacting and in sheer panic mode, and schools in districts like Dallas that haven’t (yet) decided to close cause people to ask, “Why hasn’t Dallas ISD closed because of Swine Flu”? Damned if you do, and damned if you don’t.

Oprah Warns Rihanna: Oprah Warns Rihanna, Love Doesn’t Hurt

Oprah’s warning to Rihanna has been all over the internet, and I really hope Rihanna is paying attention to what Oprah warns WILL happen if Rihanna isn’t very careful about her relationship with “alleged-abuser” Chris Brown. Oprah knows what she’s talking about, and abused women all over the world need to take heed to Oprah’s warning that Love Doesn’t Hurt! Rihanna, are you listening to Oprah?!

We’ve all heard the news reports of the “alleged attack” by Chris Brown on his girlfriend Rihanna, and we’ve seen the pictures online “allegedly” showing a beaten, bruised and battered Rihanna. It’s enough to make Oprah and all women outraged that Chris Brown raised his hand to Rihanna at all, but also that Brown not only bit Rihanna, but “allegedly” punched her in the face multiple times.

To Rihanna, teenage girls and women who are being abused by angry, controlling, abusive men listen up! Abusive men do NOT change! Do NOT become a statistic like so many other Rihanna’s in the world. The truth is, Rihanna is a celebrity who has been battered and beaten, and I’m thrilled that Oprah is doing a show next week dedicated to abused women and teen girls.

Abusive relationships affect teenage girls and women all over the world, and teenage abusive relationships are on the increase. Regardless of Rihanna’s celebrity status, Rihanna is no different than any other women who has been abused either physically, mentally or emotionally. Rihanna could be your sister, mother, cousin, niece or even your own daughter, and it’s about time abused teenage girls and women finally realize that abusive men will promise you “it will never happen again”, but don’t you believe it! Love Doesn’t Hurt! Oprah was right when she said, “If a man hits you once, he WILL hit you again“!

Oprah Warns Rihanna Video

I sure hope Rihanna will watch Oprah’s show, and that Rihanna will do some serious soul-searching about the abuse she suffered. I also hope Rihanna will take some time to herself, read everything she can get her hands on about abusive men and how statistics prove that if a man hits you once, he WILL hit you again! Are YOU in an abusive relationship? Do you know the signs of an abusive relationship and the steps you must take to protect yourself from your abuser?

Jennifer Hudson You Pulled Me Through Lyrics

I was in the darkness
I was out in the cold
Seemed nothing could heal this
This hole in my soul
You reached out your arms to me
Held out your heart to me
Pulled me back from the edge
Thought i reached the end.
When i was drowning
When i was so confused
You you you pulled me through
I was in the shadows
Lost, nothing left to lose.
You, you, you pulled me through.
You gave my faith back
Faith was so hard to find
You gave me my life back
You were my lifeline
The love that you gave me
Is love that has saved me
Your strength is what made me strong
You held me and i held on
When i was drowning
When i was so confused
You oh you you pulled me through
I was in the shadows
Lost, nothing left to lose.
You, you, you pulled me through.
Out of the dark
Into your arms
Into the light
Your love saved my life
When i was drowning
When i was so confused
You, ooh you, you (pulled me through)
(when i was drowning) when i was drowning
I was so confused (when i was confused)
Yea you ooh you yea you you pulled me through
(you pulled me through, you) you, you pulled me through

Walmart Black Friday Deaths – Walmart Employee Trampled to Death

Walmart Black Friday DeathsIn Long Island, New York, a 34-year-old WalMart employee of the Valley Stream store was trampled to death by 200 crazed stampeding shoppers during today’s Black Friday rush, as they rushed into the store at 5:00 am, “took the doors off the hinges,” injuring three other people in the stampede in order to cash in on special Black Friday deals.

A Nassau County police spokesman says it was “utter chaos.” One woman said shoppers were acting like “savages.” Other witnesses say even as the man lay gasping for air on the ground, shoppers streamed into the store, stepping over him and went on with their shopping spree.

Police say dozens of store employees who tried to help the man were also trampled by the crowd. “He was bum-rushed by 200 people, said co-worker Jimmy Overby. “He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too…I literally had to fight people off my back.”

A 28-year-old pregnant woman was knocked to the floor during the crazed Black Friday rush, but police report both mother and baby are doing fine despite early accounts that the woman had miscarried. She was hospitalized for observation, police said.

As emergency crews worked feverishly to save the unidentified store employee’s life, frenzied shoppers streamed right on past until police shut down the store. “They were working on him, but you could see he was dead. People were still coming through”. Only a few shoppers stopped.

This is just one of many reasons why I never venture out on Black Friday. There are many Black Friday online deals that don’t require risking your life by crazed lunatics such as occurred today at Walmart.

How to Quit Smoking Cigarettes & Stop Smoking For Good

Yes, you CAN quit smoking cigarettes and stop smoking for good. You can quit smoking today, right now at this very minute. The reasons to quit smoking are well-known, and there are many methods to stop smoking which will help you lead a happier, healthier, smoke-free life, where you can proudly say “I quit smoking” once and for all. You can and need to decide to quit smoking right now, today.

Why is it so hard to quit smoking? Because of nicotine. Nicotine addiction, a drug found in tobacco, is just as addictive as heroin or cocaine. Mark Twain once said, “Quitting smoking is easy. I’ve done it a thousand times.” Quitting smoking is not easy, but it can be done. Even if you have quit smoking before, but started smoking again, you are not a failure. You just need help, encouragement, advice and “quit smoking support” in order to kick the habit and stop smoking for good.

The US Surgeon General says, “Smoking cessation (stopping smoking) represents the single most important step that smokers can take to enhance the length and quality of their lives.”

The dangers of smoking and negative affects on your overall health and well-being as well as the health risks associated with secondhand smoke, has lead to nationwide smoking bans in public places including workplaces, restaurants and bars. Research studies show smoking bans help decrease the number of cigarettes people smoke and may help people quit smoking successfully once and for all.

Withdrawal Symptoms

Quitting smoking is hard because smokers must learn how to quit smoking and how to deal with nicotine withdrawal symptoms while trying to quit, such as:

  • Dizziness
  • Depression
  • Irritability, anger
  • Anxiety, restlessness
  • Sleep disturbances such as insomnia, bad dreams or nightmares
  • Difficulty in concentration
  • Headaches, fatigue
  • Increased appetite and concerns about possible weight gain when quitting smoking (yes you can quit smoking without gaining weight)

It’s very important for smokers to seriously consider the benefits of quitting smoking, and the positive affects quitting will have on your own health and body when you give up smoking, as well as the decreased risks involved with secondhand smoke on those around you.

Making the decision to stop smoking right now isn’t just for your own good. Kicking your smoking habit also creates a healthier environment for your children and loved ones, but also helps protect the general public from the damaging affects of cigarette smoke.

What Happens When You Quit Smoking

  • In 20 minutes your blood pressure and pulse rate will decrease and drop back down to normal and the body temperature of your hands and feet increase.
  • At 8 hours the carbon monoxide levels in your blood stream will drop by half, and blood oxygen levels will return to normal due to the decrease in carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide in cigarette smoke reduces the blood’s ability to carry oxygen.
  • In 24 hours your risk of having a heart attack will have decreased.
  • In 48 hours all nicotine will have left your body, nerve endings start to re-grow and your sense of taste and smell return to normal levels.
  • In 72 hours your bronchial tubes will relax, and your energy levels will increase.
  • Between 2 weeks and 3 months your circulation improves, walking and exercise becomes easier, coughing and wheezing is greatly reduced, phlegm production is reduced, and overall lung function continues to improve significantly.
  • In three to nine months coughing, wheezing, sinus congestion, fatigue, shortness of breath and breathing problems dissipate as you see significant improvement in lung capacity and function.
  • In 1 year your risk of coronary heart disease and risk of heart attack will have dropped by half that of a smoker.
  • Between 5 to 10 years after quitting smoking your risk of having a stroke or developing lung cancer will have returned to that of a non-smoker.
  • In 15 years your risk of having a heart attack will have returned to that of a non-smoker.

How to Quit Smoking

What is the best way to stop smoking? Some smokers quit smoking cold turkey and never crave or pick up a cigarette again for the rest of their lives. Others have stopped smoking with the help of the quit smoking bookThe Easy Way to Stop Smoking” with very good success rates. Many smokers have achieved success in quitting smoking with the help of the Stop Smoking CD, with once-skeptical smokers discovering they were able to quit smoking once and for all, after being unable to quit with other methods.

Other smokers have been able to quit smoking with the help of stop smoking aids, often referred to as Nicotine Replacement Therapy. Nicotine replacement therapy (NRTs) include stop smoking products like nicotine gum, the nicotine inhaler/nasal spray, nicotine lozenges and nicotine patches. NRTs contain nicotine and can be addictive themselves, but if you follow the manufacturer’s directions carefully to wean yourself off the chosen NRT, this can be a safe and comfortable way to put an end to your smoking addiction.

Quit smoking medication like Chantix (developed by Pfizer, Inc. and approved by the FDA) reduces the smokers cravings for nicotine when he or she quits smoking. A person who smokes while using Chantix finds his smoking satisfaction and enjoyment is greatly reduced due to the drug’s ability to block nicotine from binding with the nicotinic receptors in the brain. Chantix is by prescription only.

Zyban, Wellbutrin SR, and Wellbutrin XL have also been shown to dramatically reduce withdrawal symptoms associated with nicotine, and is also by prescription only. When considering any stop smoking medications to help you quit smoking, carefully review any and all known side effects of each drug. Chantix, for example, has been reported as having unhealthy side effects such as sleep disturbances, nausea and suicidal thoughts.

Other alternative options to stop smoking include hypnosis and acupuncture, and while some have seen good results, others have not been successful in quitting with either option. The stop smoking shot (Smart, Welplex or Quit 1-2-3) costs around $400.00 or more, and is injected behind the ears. Ouch! Smart is a one shot injection while Welplex or Quit 1-2-3 are three dosed shots, followed by pills and nicotine patches, so be sure to have a conversation with your doctor before deciding on stop smoking shots given at clinics.

Quit Smoking Now! Your efforts to quit smoking once and for all will be greatly enhanced by joining and participating in support groups with other like-minded people trying to stop smoking for good, with the support group called CafeMom being one of many. Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking and kicking the habit once and for all!
