My sewing experience is pretty much reduced to Home Economics class in High School many years ago, not counting typical mending, hemming or button replacement sewing done over the years. Mentioning my Christmas wish for a good quality sewing machine and sewing machine accessories to family and friends brought some humorous joking, with several teasing me that I’m officially a Grandma now because I wanted to buy a sewing machine.

Choosing the right kind of sewing machine for what I want to do as a sewer required educating myself on all the different brands of sewing machines to pick the best one for me, and of course reading consumer reviews and ratings. Consumer Reports Magazine or the CR website is often the first place I look when researching product reviews and recommendations, even though I use a few other online resources and compare the information to make a final, informed decision.

Sewing Machine Brands

According to CR, the most popular brands of sewing machines are Singer, Brother and Kenmore, selling about 70% of all sewing machine units. It came as a surprise to me to find that there are so many different brands of home sewing machines, with many brand names listed most people have never heard of. Bernina and Husqvarna Viking brands are gaining in popularity, making the list of the top 5 best selling sewing machines that are loaded with great features that sewing beginners and more experienced sewers appreciate.

Good quality, basic sewing machines can be bought for under 200 dollars, which are designed to handle most clothing and crafts projects, especially for kids or teens wanting a beginner’s sewing machine. The more expensive, top-of-the-line sewing machines offer many more options, including automated functions, producing professional-quality projects and designs, even if you don’t know how to sew and are just a beginner or intermediate sewer.

Best Sewing Machines For You

Buying the best sewing machine for you and your needs all depends on what type of sewing machine you need and what you plan to do with it. Craft projects, embroidery, quilting, making clothes, hats and outfits, baby blankets for grandchildren etc may require sewing machine models with different features than the cheap, basic models. Sewing machines for quilting make quilt assembly easier with a long-arm feature, with many quilter’s giving praise to quilting machines made by Singer, Bernina, Husqvarna Viking, Janome and Pfaff.

There are different types of sewing machines and a wide variety of price ranges to choose from. Mechanical sewing machines are very basic, less expensive sewing machines, controlled by a rotary wheel, where any necessary adjustment to thread tension, or the width or length of the stitches is made by moving a dial by hand. Mechanical models would work just fine for occasional sewers or if you’re on a strict budget needing a cheap sewing machine. Mechanical machines remind me of my mother and grandmother’s sewing machines, very old-fashioned machines with a foot pedal, lacking the updated or modern features today’s sewers want.

Electronic sewing machines is a step up from mechanical sewing machines in that electronic machines have some functions that can be accomplished simply by pushing a button, and have a number of motors for completing a variety of duties, running of course by electricity. If you are a frequent sewer and can afford to spend a little more money on a quality sewing machine, an electric model may be fine for you.

After comparing different electronic sewing machines with computerized sewing machines and the functions of each kind, it’s no surprise to me that computerized machines are what most serious sewers, seamstresses, quilting, serging and embroidery sewing hobbyists opt for.

Computerized sewing machines give more bang for the buck, so to speak. Besides the options and features found in electronic machines, computerized machine units offer the ability to do so much more. Monogramming, quilting, embroidery for craft projects like bedspreads, blankets, pillowcases, and so much more.

Choosing the best sewing machine for you (or me) not only depends on current skill levels and budget, but also considering how the sewing machine may possibly be used in the future with improved sewing skills. Considering the fact that most people typically keep a sewing machine for ten years or more, and while I don’t have any immediate plans to become an expert in quilting or embroidery, I want to make sure that I buy the best sewing machine now, thus allowing me to do everything I want to do and not have to upgrade to a better model later on.

Heard of the Fridge Locker yet? The Fridge Locker helps protect your food from “Refrig-A Raiders” at work, college and home, with the Original Personal Food Security System, The Fridge Locker. Have you ever taken your lunch to work and when it came time to go to lunch, you discovered someone swiped your food?

College roommates, friends, family and coworkers often complain about people stealing their food, drinks, snacks (and beer) without asking, but if they had the locker sized Fridge Locker, food thieves would think twice. There is no need to keep hiding snacks from friends or family anymore…, and “do not touch” signs rarely work, this portable security food locker solves your problem.

The Fridge Locker is a great gift idea for college students, dorm roommates, yourself, or anyone else on your gift list who has tried in vain to keep food raiders (people who can’t be trusted to keep their paws off your food) from emptying your fridge, freezer or pantry shelves. It’s also a great idea for parents trying to get their kids to eat healthy but have trouble keeping their kids out of the treats and snacks before dinner – be sure to choose a lock combination your kids and their friends won’t easily guess.

The Anti Theft Lunch Bags just might be enough to keep food thieves and bullies from stealing your child’s school lunch bag or lunch box, but the Fridge Locker deals with food thieves even better.

“We all know the feeling… You’re hungry for the delicious snack and the refreshing beverage that are waiting for you in the fridge. But when you open the door the shelves are empty… Keep your food safe from “Refrig-A Raiders” at home, your dorm or the office with the Original Personal Food Security System, The Fridge Locker.”

The Fridge Locker is available at PerpetualKid.com and is a simple and easy device to use. Consisting of a metal cage, measuring 7.5-inches wide by 7.5-inches tall by 11-inches deep, the Fridge Locker is secured with a combination lock that you choose. The food security system is small enough to fit in a fridge, freezer or pantry. Keep in mind that once the Fridge Locker is installed in the home, office or college dorm refrigerator, food thieves might not be too pleased that your tasty food and snacks are no longer easy pickings.

I recently read an extraordinary and thought-provoking book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Weston A. Price, DDS. In the 1930′s Price, a dentist from Cleveland, Ohio, became interested in the deteriorating dental and general health of his patients and of modern Americans. He noticed that each new generation seemed to have more cavities and more dental problems such as crowded teeth and narrow bridge formation, accompanied by an increase in other health problems, such as allergies, fatigue, behavioral problems and asthma.

Suspecting that the cause of this worsening dental and overall health might be nutritional and suspecting the many processed foods in his patient’s diets, Price decided to travel the world to examine firsthand cultures still eating their traditional diets, devoid of modern, processed foods. He eventually studied fourteen different cultures, including a remote island in Scotland, tribes in Africa, Eskimos in Alaska, Polynesian islands, and a village high in the Alps of Switzerland.

Cultures with Radiant Health

He found that, despite widely differing diets, all of the people he studied experienced radiant health with a nearly complete absence of dental problems. In some groups less than 1% of the permanent teeth were decayed – in other words, he needed to examine three or four people to find one cavity. There was a nearly complete lack of degenerative illness. He was amazed to find cultures where no one had ever had tuberculosis (one of the major killers of his time) or cancer.

Let me repeat this: the widely diversified cultures he studied all enjoyed radiant health, free from cavities, other dental problems, and degenerative illnesses. What is more, the people all seemed happy and there were no prisons or jails – because there was no need for them. However – and this is a big however – within one generation of the introduction of modern foods, usually white flour, sugar, jam, canned foods and the like, these people began to suffer from the same health problems that plagued modern (1930′s) civilization.

While eating traditional foods there were virtually no dental problems that in modern culture would require orthodontics – narrow bridges, crowded teeth, overbites. Yet when the parents (not the children) began eating processed foods, these problems appeared in the next children born. One generation is all it took to destroy radiant health and replace it with orthodontic defects, rampant tooth decay and degenerative illness. In many instances Price was able to compare the native peoples on their traditional diets with white settlers who were eating modern, processed foods: the contrast of native health with the settler’s health problems is most striking.

The book conveys its message with both words and a meticulous photographic record that is absolutely convincing. The contrast between the faces of peoples before and after the inclusion of modern foods is quite startling. Viewing these pictures and reading the catalog of problems that developed after modern foods arrived absolutely shows that eating modern processed foods leads invariably to dental and orthodontic health problems accompanied by degenerative illness. Among the other problems that he noticed was an increase in tuberculosis, an increase in cancer and a decrease in mental capacity. All this in just one generation.

Food was important to these people. In many countries it took a great deal of time and effort to obtain needed foods, in contrast with our modern world where we expect our food to be readily available, easy to prepare and dirt cheap. We settle for fast foods and convenience foods without a thought about the long-term consequences to our health or our children’s health. One long-term consequence is that we will eventually pay out many times more on disease-care than if we paid more attention to our food. Rather than having a food industry that focuses on providing us maximum nutrition, we have one that focuses on maximizing profits and shelf-life.

It is telling that dental problems never existed in isolation: the existence of cavities and defective dental structure was accompanied by physical illness and problems. When the people were healthy, they had very few cavities – despite the fact that they did nothing to clean their teeth! The teeth of many of the Swiss he visited were covered with green slime but they had no cavities.

So why in the United States does dental care consist entirely of telling us to clean our teeth? Despite all the flossing, brushing and the fluoridation of our water we still have rampant dental caries and orthodontic problems. The solution, in clear photographic and verbal form, has been available since Price’s travels: cavities come from eating processed foods. Yet we focus entirely on the external teeth while ignoring the fundamental cause and treat dental health as unrelated to overall health. A prospective buyer always checks the teeth of an animal as an indicator of overall health: why do we treat humans differently?

Ask yourself: if this information has been available since the 1930′s why are we not told! I have never had a dentist tell me that if I want an absence of dental problems I should avoid all processed foods and white sugar. I have never been told what foods I should be eating. It is as if a termite inspector told me to wash the walls that were crumbling behind the paint.

What is Radiant Health?

It bears mentioning that most of us don’t even have a concept of what it is like to have a high degree of health. We accept as normal any number of symptoms such as dental caries, headaches, generalized achiness or a “weak” back. We assume that a natural part of aging is to slowly lose our capacity to do physical activity and that degenerative illnesses such as arthritis are inevitable.

I, personally, can mostly only imagine what it must be like to wake up every day feeling an energetic well-being that I could count on lasting throughout the day. What would it be like to be radiantly healthy? To be alert, energetic, active and pain-free all day every day. To not have to worry about “catching a cold” or exhausting myself by doing normal, every day activities.

The people Weston A. Price observed had an incredibly high level of health. When I look at animals in nature, I see a energetic capability, a vital life-force that is palpable. Price’s work shows that a sense of physical well-being is our birth-right – that we are genetically programmed to have radiant health – and that it was available to the people he studied largely because of the way they ate.

Observations about Diet

So what should we be eating? Although the diets of the many groups varied there were certain common factors:

All foods consumed were raised in a manner which we would label ” organic ” – no pesticides and no commercial fertilizers.

All foods were what we would call “whole foods.”

All diets included a healthy source of saturated fat from animal sources.

None of these cultures consumed polyunsaturated oils.

There was usually a source of fermented food, such as yogurt or fermented cabbage (sauerkraut).

Meat eaters always consumed the entire animal – the organ meat was considered the most nutritious and some meat was consumed raw.

Grains were always soaked, fermented or soured (to neutralize the phytates in whole grains: phytates inhibit the absorption of minerals).

Perhaps the most important point is that these cultures ate only complete, nutrient-dense food. There was no “junk food.” There was no “processed food.” There was no “fractionated food.”Just real, whole food direct from nature.

Why are whole foods so important? Recently in the news we have been introduced to the “miracle” of folic acid – said to help prevent miscarriages, atherosclerosis caused by homocysteine, and possibly Alzheimer’s Disease. For years Americans received too little of this nutrient because they were eating white, processed flour, from which the folic acid was removed. So now the food manufacturers remove the folic acid in milling and then put it back as a synthetic vitamin. (At the International Health News Database, see “Folic Acid: Summaries of the latest research concerning folic acid.”) So why take it out in the first place?

But what else has been removed from the flour that we don’t yet know about? What will be the next “miracle” nutrient to be discovered? It might even be pantothenic acid or choline – other B vitamins that we now strip out of our food. How can we be so stupid!

Price estimated that the people he studied all received ten times as much of vitamins A & D as Americans of his time. Ten times!! Price believed that these fat-soluble vitamins were the key to their health. And where did they come from? In many instances the much-maligned saturated fats. None of the diets he studied had any heart disease despite eating, in some cases, large quantities of saturated fat. Price also estimated they received about four times as much of other minerals.

No wonder they were so healthy! We have replaced nutrient-dense foods with processed flours and sugars – not only don’t they provide us with any nutrition, they rob vitamins and minerals from other bodily functions so we can process the denatured food through our system. They dangerously give us energy without substance – energy that allows us to keep going without rebuilding our reserves. I have read estimates that 16% up to 25% of the calories of Americans come from sugars or desserts – about 1/4 of our diet. These people ate none. None! They were radiantly healthy. We are not. Are we really unable to perceive the obvious?

And can we overestimate the importance of not having so many chemicals and additives in the diet? Each non-natural substance we add to a food is something else that our body has to deal with. Again, contrast these people, who were exposed to virtually no chemicals and additives and were radiantly healthy, to modern people, who are exposed to thousands of different chemicals and additives, and whose health is terrible. This shouldn’t be very difficult to understand.

Price even included a chapter on soil health which points out how quickly the dense nutrients created in top soil over the millennia are used up and are no longer available to the food. It is so self-evident that the nutrients in the plant are dependant on the nutrient in the soil: studies are finding that organic food does have higher mineral and vitamin content as well as phytonutrients – plant compounds that can fight cancer. (See “Organics for Health” by the Institute of Science in Society.) What else are we taking out of the soil that could help us achieve radiant health?

There are a few things that Price did not find:

There were no vegetarians and there were no low-fat diets among the healthy cultures he studied.

Certain of the populations (Swiss, African, Eskimo, Scottish) did not consume many vegetables yet remained healthy.

The diet of some populations – the Masai of Africa, for example – consisted exclusively of meat (or blood) and full fat milk and yet there was an absence of the degenerative illnesses that modern medicine tells us will result from consuming such items.

Nearly every culture consumed some foods, often in large quantities, that are now considered unhealthy with no detriment to health: this included raw milk and cheese by the Swiss; red meat by the Masai; large amounts of fat eaten by the Eskimos; shellfish and coconut oil eaten by the Polynesians.

Conclusions

Since the 1930s there has been knowledge about how to be healthy that has been basically ignored. Weston Price teaches us is that the only criteria for the food we eat ought that it be healthy, natural, and nutrient dense. The people he studied ate 100 percent whole, nutrient-dense, nourishing food. There were no cheats. Everything contributed, not detracted from, nutrition and health.

Basically what he studied were people eating the foods that human beings evolved through millennia to eat. Every time we eat a processed or created new food, we are eating someone’s attempt to improve upon nature and evolution: not necessarily a good idea, as the current epidemics of type II diabetes, cancer, heart disease and obesity in America shows us!

Something very refreshing about the people he studied was that they were real people eating real foods. Too many diet or medical studies are of people eating someone else’s modern idea about what constitutes nutrition. There is a reason that degenerative illnesses are considered diseases of civilization: Price confirmed that people eating the natural diets that we evolved to eat did not suffer from these illnesses.

The first question that arose for me even while reading the book was why the information in this book was not common knowledge. It is so exciting to find out that there have been many people who did not suffer from the ill-health and degenerative illnesses that we simply take for granted. Why on earth is this book not the best-known book anywhere on health? The book makes it so obvious – when previously healthy people begin eating processed foods such as sugar and white flour, they lose their health. So simple. Why is this not widely known? Why is this knowledge ignored?!!?

The most important question that arises for me after reading this book is: how much do I want to gamble with my health? I ask you as well: how much do you want to gamble with your health and with the health of your children? How much sugar is too much? How much processed food can I eat without compromising my immune system? Do I feel as healthy as I would like? If these people were radiantly healthy without eating sugar and I do not have that level of health, do I want to continue feeling sub-par? Is eating sugar and processed food really worth remaining more unhealthy than I want?

Do I really want to replace living, healthy foods that provide health-giving substances that we haven’t begun to discover with manufactured crap that “tastes” good but provides only processed, devitalized nutrients? I can imagine what it is like to be radiantly healthy every day of my life: why would I want to eat in a way that decreases the possibility of having that degree of well-being? If these people were getting so many more vitamins and minerals from whole foods, shouldn’t I start eating as many nutrient-dense foods as possible immediately? What am I waiting for?

If you can honestly say that you have as much health as you would like, that you can’t conceive of feeling better, than go ahead and ignore what Price found: eat all the processed foods and sugar you would like. But if you can conceive of feeling better, why on earth are you willing to take the chance of not improving your health? If you don’t believe me I challenge you to read the book.

Answering Objections

One common reaction I get when I tell people that these 14 populations on natural diets had no degenerative illnesses is: “But they exercised more and they had no stress in their life.” People figure they don’t need to change their diet because it was the exercise and the stress. But couldn’t it work the other way? Maybe they had the energy to work hard and were more stress free because of their diet? And if that diet is part of the equation, doesn’t it make sense to adopt it in some form or other? And what is our excuse for not dealing with the stress and the lack of exercise? Do we really want to argue about why we can’t get healthy? Wouldn’t it be better to start creating health instead?

Another reaction dismisses everything Price found as “genetics.” T. L. Cleave, writing in The Saccharine Disease, (John Wright & Sons Limited, 1974), makes the point that among wild animals, hereditary defects are rare. Although in civilized humans they are somewhat higher, true “hereditary defects” rarely exceed 4 or 5 individuals per 1,000 live births (for such things as club foot, cleft palate, or congenital malformations of the heart). He argues that when the frequency of occurrence is higher than this, that hereditary defect as a cause is “highly improbable.” The question, he says, is “whether the body is built wrongly or is being used wrongly.”

If we are designed to eat nutrient-dense, whole foods and we are instead eating processed foods that are antithetical to good health, we have used our body wrongly – we have not given it the nutrition that it is designed for. It becomes absurd to talk about someone being genetically more prone to a heart-attack when the foods being consumed are modern processed foods. All too often people use the reason of “genetics” to excuse the fact that they are using their body wrongly.

Certainly, genetics plays a role in the various strengths and weaknesses of our body: but it is the height of stupidity to blame genetics for an illness when we are consuming foods not suited for our body. What we are essentially saying is that certain people are more genetically pre-disposed not to get as sick on diet of unhealthy foods.

Often people refer to something they read in a newspaper, such as an article saying saturated fats are bad or one about the necessity of avoiding eggs. Any one who has followed nutritional advice through conventional media can only be amazed at the level of ignorance displayed in print and on television. Remember that the same people who for years told you to eat margarine (now known to be extremely unhealthy because of the presence of trans fatty acids) are still giving you dietary advice.

If you doubt that much of the dietary advice we are given is profit-driven by food manufacturers with a direct financial stake in what you eat, I recommend the article “The Oiling of America“, which shows how the conventional dietary recommendations on fat are largely driven by vegetable oil manufacturers. Contrast this with the dietary advice from Weston A. Price, which was time-tested by millennia. The people he studied ate foods discovered over time to build radiant health in themselves and their children. These people did not work for nor were they funded by someone with direct financial outcome in what they ate.

Specific Steps

And, as they say, the proof is in the eating. These peoples were healthy and happy. They must have been doing something right. If we look around at the general level of health of our society and the culture in which we live, we might well ask what me have to lose by trying something different and time-tested. The health in our culture is pathetic: how can we ignore the wisdom in this book?

One saving grace is that a diet based on Price’s work is anything but painful to adopt. What this book says and what it shows us in words and images is that old-fashioned, good-tasting whole food is healthy. Perhaps the hardest thing to overcome is the decades of brain-washing we have been through about what constitutes good nutrition.

There are several specific steps anyone can take right now to improve their health. If you can’t do everything all at once, do what you can.

Eliminate sugar, white flour and other processed foods from your diet.

Start eating natural, whole, unprocessed foods.

As much as possible purchase organic vegetables and meat from animals raised as naturally as possible (without the use of growth hormones and antibiotics).

Educate yourself as to truly healthy ways to prepare food and to eat (see below).

Where to go From Here

I can not recommend strongly enough that you read Price’s book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. It is an incredible and inspiring motivator for change. The website of the Weston A. Price Foundation is a great place to read about Price’s discoveries and the dietary implications.

The best modern re-telling and updating of Price’s work is Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon (New Trends Publishing, Revised and Updated Second Edition, 1999). The first chapter provides an excellent and very convincing overview of nutrition and the recipes will get you moving in the right direction.

The new Kindle Fire has caught my attention due to the extremely low price of just $199.00, with free shipping for Amazon Prime Members, much cheaper than the extremely popular iPad. We don’t own an iPad and at this point have no interest in spending that kind of money on an electronic gadget when our laptops and computers work just fine. Having read numerous reviews about the Kindle, positive and negative, waiting for the latest and greatest version of the Kindle and seeing what options and apps are available seemed to be the wise choice.

Even though one can purchase a basic Kindle for just $79, and other versions for a little more money, the new Kindle Fire offers music, movies, games, TV shows, magazines, newspapers, books, color touchscreen and fast web-browsing and more for just under two hundred bucks. The ability to check emails, shop online and many other great features much cheaper than the super-expensive iPad, automatically spells out “Sold” in my book. Having the Kindle Fire will be a great asset when travelling away from home or on vacation trips by plane, without having to lug thick and heavy books or a laptop around in luggage for continuous reading material.

Just in time for some Christmas competition with Amazon’s Kindle Fire, Barnes & Noble announced the release of the Kindle’s deemed competitor, the Nook Tablet. Will the Kindle Fire win out or will the Nook? Reviews of the Kindle Fire are insanely positive, some are calling the Kindle Fire an “iPad Killer”, with even the Atlantic Wire saying the Kindle Fire is the hands-down winner over the Nook Tablet.

“The Fire gives me the features I want at a price point that’s less than half of the iPad 2. I can check my email, browse the Internet, maybe play a few games, most importantly, I can read magazines in color on a Kindle.” – Gizmodo

“At $199 the Fire is less than half the price of the Apple iPad, which starts at $499. It is the first tablet from a major company to seriously undercut the iPad in price.” – New York Times

“The Kindle Fire is the tablet you need at the price you’ll be willing to pay.” – Technology Review

“Amazon’s Kindle Fire is likely to be the first successful tablet not sold by Apple, and there are several good reasons for it: the low price of $199, the convenient, portable size of 7 inches, and a rich catalog of books, movies and music offered through Amazon’s Web-based services.” – Ars Technica

“The Fire is the real deal and it’s going to disrupt the equilibrium of the existing market for media devices.” – Chicago Sun Times

“There’s a new mayor in Droidville. But this guy didn’t roll into town with pomp and circumstance. He strolled down Main Street and simply offered more than any other candidate, extolling a plan based on down-to-earth sensibility and affordability. Meet the Kindle Fire.” – Seeking Alpha

PC Mag wonders if the popularity and sales of the new Kindle Fire might kill Apple’s Christmas this year, given how buying a Kindle Fire at about $200 is still $300 less than the least expensive iPad, making the Fire much more affordable for budget-conscious Christmas shoppers in a down economy, and great features sure to give the Nook Tablet a run for its money.

The Kindle Fire is a great asset for individuals, parents and children, with millions of books, bestsellers, cookbooks, comic books and children’s books to enjoy. Amazon Prime Members who are Kindle owners can borrow books with no return due date, including New York Times bestsellers, for FREE via the “Kindle Owners Lending Library”.

Sold separately, Kindle Fire accessories like leather covers, skins, sleeves, screen protectors, headphones or in-ear earphones, could very well mean this year’s holiday season will be dubbed “Kindle Christmas” for many good reasons. Move over big heavy books, I want a new Kindle Fire for my very own.

Tooth decay is curable. You can reverse, heal and actually cure tooth decay, and prevent having to pay the astronomical costs of expensive dental treatments like root canals, crowns, implants etc. As a dental professional, telling the truth about the causes of tooth decay and how to cure tooth decay is extremely important to me, versus the commonly known drivel that has been told for many years by the dental health “authorities” and their subjects.

For that reason, I tracked down the author of the book Cure Tooth Decay, Mr. Ramiel Nagel and asked him if he’d be inclined to submit a guest post to me about his book. Fortunately he agreed, and below are his written words. He explains not only why he wrote his book about curing tooth decay, but also explains the truth about what causes tooth decay in the first place, and what steps are necessary nutritionally to cure and prevent tooth decay and other oral diseases.

“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the AUTHORITY of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.” – Buddha

Introducing Ramiel Nagel, author of Cure Tooth Decay:

Many people believe that dental treatments and fluoride are the only way to heal cavities; however, this is not based in fact. People who discover they have a cavity may feel vulnerable and unsure of how to correct the problem themselves. The most widely held notion is that cavities cannot be repaired or healed. Most people will attempt to fix the cavity by visiting the dentist, who will place a filling in the tooth to cover the damaged area.

There is new information in the book, Cure Tooth Decay: Heal and Prevent Cavities Naturally by Ramiel Nagel, that helps us understand that dental surgery and the harmful chemical fluoride are not the only options for healing tooth decay. The book, which can be purchased at www.curetoothdecay.com, explains other ways to heal the teeth. With interesting insights and fact based studies, the book helps destroy the medical doctrine that believes in disease and suffering. Discover the true reasons why tooth decay occurs. Take away knowledge, so you become confident in your ability to prevent tooth decay and succeed in stopping it.

Many people regularly see the dentist, while others only visit when they have pain or inflammation of the gums. Most dentists take X-rays and will then notify you of the presence of a cavity. They offer to fill the cavity with some new type of natural filling for several hundred dollars, and then the problem will be solved.

But is the problem really solved?

Ramiel began his quest to discovering the true cause of cavities when his daughter suffered from tooth decay at the age of one. Most dentists refer to tooth decay in young children as “baby bottle mouth,” which is supposedly caused by children drinking bottles filled with fruit juice. However, his daughter did not eat sweets or drink fruit juices. She was frequently breastfed and had rarely consumed processed foods.

The current theory did not truly explain the reasons why his daughter had tooth decay. He knew he had to determine the actual cause of tooth decay, especially since younger children cannot undergo modern dental treatments like adults can. Since children cannot sit completely still and usually dislike objects forced in their mouth during dental treatments, dentists usually use anesthesia and other unpleasant techniques. These methods are merely a convenient and haphazard way of treating tooth decay, as they are not the best treatment option from a medical standpoint. They are also extremely costly in many ways.

Ramiel’s work is largely based on the studies and research by Weston A. Price and Melvin Page. Weston Price was well respected dentist during the height of his career, from the early 1900’s to 1948. He was the forerunner for the American Dental Association, as he was the chairman of the Research Section of the National Dental Association from 1914 to 1923. His work was widely respected during his time and he published numerous articles in many dental journals, including the Journal of the American Dental Association.

Instead of determining why people in a modern society had tooth decay, Price journeyed across the globe to discover why Indigenous people had healthy teeth. His work uncovered the truth that there was something gravely wrong with the way modern societies live. This has resulted in many people losing their pristine state of health. Price’s research led to him developing an outline for a tooth decay healing protocol, which was over 95% effective in healing tooth decay without surgery when followed under precise conditions. Basically, tooth decay and cavities can be repaired with a certain type of nutrition.

What Is Dental Surgery?

A dentist’s job is to fix the hole or pain that you have in your mouth. The usual techniques involve drilling a bigger hole in the mouth, then filling the space with a synthetic material. A dentist is actually known as a DDS, which stands for doctor of dental surgery. The surgery never addresses the real cause of tooth decay, and merely attempts to treat the symptoms of tooth decay, pain or a hole in the tooth.

The Center for Disease Control published alarming results from a study of over 15,000 people. As people age, the rate of tooth decay rises. People ages 16 to 19 have approximately 11% of all teeth affected by decay at one time. The numbers continue to climb, so that once a person is over the age of 60, more than half of their teeth have been afflicted by tooth decay. A total of approximately 93% percent of people over the age of 60 have experienced tooth decay.

If conventional methods for preventing tooth decay, such as brushing and fluoridation, were effective, than the rates of tooth decay would not continue to rise. Either it would stay at the same rate or it would get better. This is what is referred to as an unscientifically sound practice. The statistics clearly show failure, due to the fact that decay of the teeth becomes worse over time. This means that either Nature is flawed and people are doomed to a life with tooth decay or humans are flawed in utilizing and understanding Nature.

The Current Theory on Tooth Decay is Wrong

The American Dental Association states that:

“[Tooth decay] occurs when foods containing carbohydrates (sugars and starches) such as milk, pop, raisins, cakes or candy are frequently left on the teeth. Bacteria that live in the mouth thrive on these foods, producing acids as a result. Over a period of time, these acids destroy tooth enamel, resulting in tooth decay.”

Here are several reasons why there are issues with this theory:

#1) It is believed that we breathe in thousands of germs each hour, which means it is impossible to rid your mouth of bacteria, even if you brush your teeth regularly.

#2) There are studies that show people in some Indigenous groups had fermentable carbohydrates stuck on their teeth, and they never brushed their teeth. Yet, the teeth were mostly or completely free of decay.

#3) Bacteria does not consume sugars due to a lack of nutrients in them. Sugars are processed to prevent spoilage and consumption by bacteria. It makes little sense that these sugars with no nutritional value become food for the bacteria once they are in the mouth.

#4) Flours are treated to prevent spoilage and the minerals, which are the bacteria’s food, are removed. Hence, bacteria do not eat processed flour for the same reasons mentioned above regarding sugar.

#5) Bacteria do like to eat milk, vegetables, fruit, fish and meat, yet these are foods are not linked to being causes of tooth decay.

#6) The study from the CDC shows that even though people use prevention methods, roughly 90% of the population continues to be afflicted by tooth decay at least once in their lifetime. While some may say that the individuals who have tooth decay are not following the recommendations to brush or floss, this is merely a way to blame the victim instead of looking at the true cause. People were not told what actually causes tooth decay, so they have not had the knowledge to stop it.

The True Causes of Tooth Decay

Harvard Professor Earnest Hooten studied the work of Price, and came to the conclusion that: “It is store food that has given us store teeth.” He believed we should consider the ways of Indigenous groups due to their low or nonexistent rates of tooth decay.

Dr. Price was able to show the disastrous results when Indigenous groups came into contact with modern societies. Groups that had been free from tooth decay for generations were suddenly afflicted by tooth decay once they came into contact with modern foods.

Indigenous people would go to great lengths to find foods that contained special fat-soluble vitamins, and our modern culture does not regularly consume these nutrients. Surveys done by the United States Department of Agriculture have shown that a large percentage of the population in under nourished. It should not be astonishing due to the fact that modern societies tend to eat foods that are processed and full of chemicals.

This means that you must pay careful attention to the foods you are consuming. Processed foods are not going to help you achieve optimal health. You must consider the consequences of each and every bite of processed food that you consume.

Dentist Melvin Page used blood tests to determine the cause of tooth decay in modern societies. If a person consumes too many processed or sugary foods, the blood chemistry in the person becomes out of balance. This leads to phosphorus and calcium levels being abnormal in the body. This results in minerals being stripped from the bones. Basically, sugar causes tooth decay because it diminishes nutrients in the body.

Tooth decay is not the result of bacteria and the acids they produce. To restore the balance of phosphorus and calcium, and ensure minerals are able to bond to the teeth, you must eat health building foods. Simply avoiding processed foods and sugars are not enough; you must eat foods that contain the right minerals and nutrients to build strong tooth structure in place of decayed, damaged tooth structure.

Freeing Yourself from Tooth Decay

This is simply an introduction on how you can be truly free from decay. Our teeth can rebuild themselves and cover themselves with a hard layer, if we provide our body with the right nutrition.

What is the right type of nutrition?

The most significant factor is fat-soluble vitamins. These are present in plant and animal foods that are raised in nature. The fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and E come from whole foods. You can find these vitamins in grass-fed animal foods, as well as in the organ of wild fish and shellfish. You may have heard that powerful animals, such as bears, sometimes eat only the head (or brain) of salmon for nourishment. This is due to the fact that the organs of land animals and fish contain the vitamins that make us healthy.

You can find the fat-soluble vitamin E in the germ of grains from oats, barley, rye and wheat. If the grains are processed, the vitamins are oxidized and the result is grains that are rancid. Commercial grain products are improperly processed, so it is extremely difficult to find grains that contain the vitamin intact. Even organic foods can be harmful to our teeth due to the nutrients being lost from improper preparation. Only eat freshly ground grain products. The grains should also be fermented to make them digestible and release trapped nutrients.

When we lack all of the key fat-soluble vitamins in our diet, we experience tooth decay. Numerous people think a diet full of organic foods is enough to stay healthy. However, many of these people continue to suffer from tooth decay. The reason is due to the lack of fat-soluble vitamins and bio-available minerals in their diet.

Those who eat animal products need to consume grass-fed milk, cheese, cream and butter. Preferably from cows that eat rapidly-growing grass during the spring and summer. We also need to consume truly free-ranging chicken eggs and organs from land or sea animals.

Another key reason why people are afflicted by tooth decay is from consuming too many sweet foods. Whether the sweets you are consuming are natural or processed, any type of sweet food can cause a change in blood sugar, which will result in minerals being pulled from the bones. Minimize the amount of sweet foods you consume, including bananas, honey, dates, maple syrup, carrots and other types of fruit.

Living Without Tooth Decay

Ramiel has created a book that will show you how to live free from tooth decay with good nutrition. Both he and his daughter were afflicted by cavities and tooth decay, and they have both strengthen their teeth and stopped cavities, without the use of dental treatments. His daughter also has an improved mood and her teeth protect themselves from infection, which is known as arrested decay. With the right nutrition, he was able to escape painful and dangerous dental treatments and heal his teeth naturally. As a parent, he has helped protect his daughter from these same treatments, and for that, he is eternally grateful.

In today’s society, many people believe that “life is suffering.” Often times, people have unfelt and deep beliefs regarding suffering and disease. Most people are not consciously aware of these beliefs, so they dismiss the answers that are blatantly staring them in the face. It causes people to promote things like water fluoridation and dental surgery, when these things are not necessary given the fact that our teeth our not designed to decay.

By making the correct choices for your lifestyle, you can minimize and prevent tooth decay, as well as repair cavities once they have formed. Don’t continue to be fooled by the illusion that you cannot cure diseases. We do know the cause of tooth decay and how to cure it. Use this knowledge to take responsibly for your dental health. Learn more about how to live a life free from tooth decay and how to prevent and heal cavities naturally by purchasing a copy of the book at www.curetoothdecay.com.

The Fallen book series is a very interesting series. It still fits my genre of fiction, but it puts a slightly different twist to it. Fallen keeps the same general “forbidden love” between human and fallen angel, and now it’s not solely based on that. The main character’s soul is in jeopardy!

Fallen, in a sense, is more of a prelude to the next book ‘Torment’. Luce (the main character) ends up at Sword and Cross, which is more of a Psych Ward, then a school. All the students there are crazy, one way or another and all of Luce’s friends (except 1 – Penn) are all fallen angels.

Throughout all of Luce’s past lives, her soul had been “claimed” by the fallen angels who still fight for God’s side. Suddenly, they realize in this life, that something is different about Luce. As Arriane (good fallen angel) talks to Luce to get some background details, she then uncovers that Luce hadn’t been baptized, or anything, thus leaving her soul free to be swayed either way for good or for bad.

Daniel Grigori is literally Luce’s soul mate and a fallen angel, but one who still supports Heaven. Throughout every life, Luce and Daniel have been together. In Luce’s current life, despite her clear attraction to Daniel, he’s trying to stay as far from her as he can. What she doesn’t know is that there’s a curse on their relationship that only lets her get to a certain age, before she spontaneously combusts.

During Luce’s entire life she’s seen a strange black shadow. Every time the Shadow appears, a disaster happens like when Luce’s ex-boyfriend spontaneously combusted, or when her and her friend Penn were in Sword & Cross’ library and the library caught on fire, killing a student (Todd) in the flames. She doesn’t know why the Shadow’s randomly appear, or what purpose they/it serves, but one thing’s for certain, she doesn’t want anything to do with it!

The weird thing with this book is that instead of telling you important details about who Daniel Grigori is along with Arriane, Cam, Roland and Gabbe, and their past about being a fallen angel etc. Lauren Kate leaves it as “You have to discover it on your own”. Daniel isn’t allowed to tell Luce much of anything about any one of the “fallen angels”, so it leaves a lot of unanswered questions, as well as some confusion. There isn’t much that happens in the first book, Hence why I say it’s more of a giant prologue to the second book Torment.

In Torment, Luce is transferred from Sword & Cross to Shoreline where she can be well protected. As the news had traveled down the line that Luce’s soul is up for grabs, a group of different fallen angels made it their mission to capture and kill Luce. The Outcasts are fallen angels that neither Heaven nor Hell want. As a way of dealing with the Outcasts, Cam (a fallen angel who supports Hell) and Daniel make a truce that for 18 days (the holiest number in Heaven) they wouldn’t attack each other, and they would work together to defeat the Outcasts and protect Luce’s soul.

While at Shoreline, they teach all kinds of things in regards to Angelism. They can reach extremely far back into history, but history that deals with past lives, forget it. The Shadows that Luce sees, they teach students that they’re actually called Announcers and they serve a very interesting purpose. They get summoned to show the “user” something about the person’s past, whether it is a matter of days, or entirely different lives altogether. The Announcers work as a type of TV, they get stretched as far as you can make them, and then project an image depending on what you want to see. Of course it’s a dangerous task working with Announcers, as the information they give isn’t always true.

Once Luce learns what she’s capable of doing with Announcers, she seeks for her family in past lives to learn what she can about herself and the life she lived to figure out if there’s a way of reversing her curse. Of course it’s hard to reverse what you don’t know too much information about. As the 18 days slowly pass by, Luce is able to learn more and more about how to handle Announcers and different things she can do with them like travel to varies places and time periods.

When Thanksgiving rolled around, Luce was allowed to go home to her family in Georgia, but with a ton of fallen angels for escorts. All the happiness ends just as quickly as it began when the Outcasts found everyone and unleashed Hell. Despite her strong urge to help her friends fight the Outcasts, there’s not much a human can do. On top of that, everyone wants to keep her safe and unharmed for their own reasons. The Outcasts want to capture her, because she is their only way to get back into Heaven. Her staying alive is important to all 3 sides, because her existence will ultimately decide the fate of everyone.

As Luce got more and more frustrated with the situation, her friend Miles (who is a Nephilim) was able to project a mirror image of Luce. With the Real Luce safe, Miles was able to make the fake Luce look like she had given up, and sided with the Outcasts. Before the Outcasts left with “Luce” Cam shot an arrow aiming and killing the mirror image of Luce. Once everyone thought and believed that Luce was really dead, Daniel started threatening Cam until he caught a glimpse of the real Luce in his peripheral vision opening an Announcer. Little did Daniel know, Luce had learned how to manipulate Announcers so she could use them in any way she wanted/needed.

Once the real Luce saw that Cam had intended to really kill her instead of the fake her, Luce had gotten upset to the point where she just wanted to escape from the last of the lies and everything that she had just witnessed. She opened an announcer, looked to see every one watching her, and jumped inside the Announcer not caring where it would take her and where she would end up.

Ultimately, these books by Lauren Kate are really good books. It’s somewhat difficult to explain some of the things that happen in these books without having to go into a huge explanation about them. Although I was surprised at how the first one turned out, I couldn’t help but go and buy the second book, and then the third book called Passion. It really makes you think about your own past lives, the people you know now, the people you’ve dated etc, and makes you consider the possibility of past lives, and even reincarnation.

What if the people you know right now, you’ve met over and over and over again through thousands of years? Would you want to find a way of exploring you old selves, and learning about your past self? Your likes, your dislikes, if all the problems you’ve dealt with now in this life, if you’ve dealt with them over and over and over again? It truly makes you think, and consider all these different things. These are really amazing books, and I highly recommend them to anyone who’s interested in fallen angels and the like.
