Addison Kaboom Town fireworks isn’t the only July 4th Independence Day celebration event in the Dallas-Forth Worth area this year. If attendance at last year’s Kaboom Town in Addison is any indication of its popularity, Dallas/Fort Worth area city officials should stand up and pay attention. The City of Dallas initially announced the cancellation of their annual July 4th fireworks show due to budget cuts, but Dallas officials have since realized that not having a fireworks event in their city would send the wrong message.
Dallas Mayor Pro Tem, Dwaine Caraway, who became angry that the city had scheduled no fireworks this Fourth of July because of budgeting problems, told city officials they had better come up with a plan for fireworks – or else. In an interview in his Dallas City Hall office, Caraway said, “It’s gonna be some fireworks if they don’t find fireworks. To not have fireworks – it’s sending an invitation to all of the surrounding cities that you’re better than Dallas,” Caraway said. “Everybody’s got some but us.” Caraway said Monday that the city hadn’t tried hard enough to find sponsors of its own. He said that if Friends of Fair Park can’t find the money, the city Park Department needs to make it happen somehow – at Fair Park or elsewhere.
