Birthdays, weddings, anniversaries are amongst my favorite times to give someone a gift of experiences that will be remembered for many years to come, if not a lifetime. I also enjoy giving “just because” gifts at various times throughout the year, completely unexpected inexpensive gifts just to treat someone I know to a special experience day for no other reason than to say I’ve been thinking about you and love you.

Some of my Dallas area readers and friends have asked me to share some ideas and resources I use to find fun things to do in and around Dallas and surrounding cities, as well as some local gift experience ideas DFW residents may not have thought about or know are available. It may be considered by some to be old-fashioned in today’s society to do nice things for people “just because” or send “thinking of you” cards, anniversary cards or Christmas cards to loved ones, but I like to do nice thoughtful things for people I care about, and send cards through the mail rather than sending e-cards (or not sending cards at all) just because doing so seems more personal to me.

We hear so much about doing random acts of kindness for people just because we can and should, whether it’s for people we know, our families, close friends or complete strangers. It seems to me that one of the kindest and simplest gifts we can give are experiences that are fun, thoughtful, encouraging, uplifting, just because we want them to be happy, laugh and smile and enjoy themselves with whatever we have to offer.

When was the last time you gave someone a Just Because gift, sent a gift basket or a thinking of you card by mail, or gifted someone with an experience gift voucher of doing something fun and exciting just because you wanted to, or for a birthday, anniversary or graduation etc that was unique, personalized and specially chosen just for them?

Unique Experience Gifts in Dallas

Texas residents living in Dallas, Plano, McKinney, Richardson, Arlington, Fort Worth and all other cities around the DFW Metroplex have available an unlimited number of great experience gift ideas for any budget. Many gifts of experiences, activity and adventure gifts are not expensive and come in all price ranges. Some low cost or cheap experience gifts commonly given are zoo passes, movie theater tickets, restaurant gift cards or certificates, spa facials and massage experiences, but there are many other inexpensive experience gifts of every type imaginable that tend to be skipped over or not thought of.

I love Dallas gift baskets because they are specially designed to celebrate and congratulate the birth of a newborn baby, anniversary gifts, engagements, weddings, holidays, graduations, birthdays, Get Well Soon, retirement, housewarmings, thinking of you well wishes and any major event going on in someone’s life. I am a pure romantic through and through, and I love to surprise my husband with small romantic gifts that include fun and entertaining experiences that he and I can enjoy locally together.

Romantic dinner cruises for two are excellent experiences that can be given as gifts for couples dating, engaged, married and/or celebrating an anniversary. Several years ago, Dallas had the Texas Queen Riverboat dinner cruise, but the Texas Queen is unfortunately long gone now. Romantic Dallas area gondola dinner cruises for two are available, sunset sailing cruise on scenic Lake Travis, personalized gift experiences, wine tasting experiences, driving experience gifts, horseback riding experiences, chocolate lovers experiences, flying experiences, exciting cooking lessons, learn how to dance lessons and many more ideas for thrill seekers.

Oklahoma isn’t too far from Dallas, and Broken Bow Oklahoma has many magnificent and beautiful luxury cabins for rent lakeside over a long weekend, a vacation week or just overnight. Oklahoma vacation cabins for rent on the lake and tent camping is one of our favorite things to do, with fishing, boating, jet skiing, horseback riding, biking, hiking, canoeing, tent camping, just to name a few. Chicago is also one of our favorite vacation hotspots, and there are tons of fun experiences that can be given as gifts for any and all special occasions, or just because. Unique, uncommon ideas that are cheap, medium-priced and occasionally somewhat expensive that might be considered “out of the box” thinking is what I enjoy when trying to decide on a gift experience for someone.

I stay on top of local events in and around Dallas, upcoming concerts, comedy shows at local venues, family-friendly theater, festivals, local Monster Jam events, arts and crafts exhibits, TX state fairs and more. I regularly check lists of things going on at Ticketmaster, the Eisemann Center in Richardson, the American Airlines Center event calendar, Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, WinStar Casino in Thackerville Oklahoma, Music Hall at Fair Park, Guidelive.com and similar websites for fun things to do in spring, summer, fall and winter in and around Dallas.

Experience Days Gift Experiences

Bookmark these websites for any time you are looking to buy a gift of experiences for someone near and dear to you, even if you do not live in or around Dallas. Experience days of thrilling fun and excitement is a gift enjoyed and remembered for a lifetime, rather than just more material “stuff” to sit on a shelf, stashed in a drawer or in the back of a closet.

Dallas Driving Gift Experiences

Need some experience gift ideas for men? Fort Worth and Dallas area race car driving enthusiasts can enjoy the thrill ride of a lifetime with a variety of driving experience gifts. Do you or someone you know want to drive a NASCAR? Be a race car driver for a day! Take a thrilling high-speed ride as a passenger in a NASCAR stock car reaching speeds of 180 mph; get behind the wheel and drive a INDY race car with speeds reaching 170 mph or a NASCAR-qualifier race car reaching speeds of 145 mph; drive and race a 450+ horsepower Corvette muscle sports car at top speed at Texas Motor Speedway.

The Dallas flying gift experience of air combat as a dogfight fighter pilot looks like a lot of fun, as does the introductory flight lesson while flying over Dallas to learn how to fly a plane. Dallas hot air balloon rides are popular experience gifts for DFW area locals and tourists. Gift someone the chance to be a pilot by getting behind the controls and flying an airplane in a flight simulator experience gift, or give the gift of a golf lesson with a PGA Pro. Driving experiences are not just great gifts for guys, but women that have a “need for speed” will enjoy driving fast race cars just as much as guys do.

Adventure gift experiences like group paintball activities are very popular in Dallas; rent a Harley Davidson motorcycle for up to a week adventure touring with an unlimited miles; rent a Lamborghini Gallardo or Ferrari 360 Spyder or a Bentley Flying Spur for a thrilling day experience of a lifetime. If you live or know someone who lives in or around Dallas and you’re wanting to give a unique gift experience to someone special, think out of the box, be original and buy a gift experience for your special someone that is unlike any other gift you’ve ever given them before.

Remember, gifts of experiences do not have to be expensive, just well thought out and chosen with the gift-recipient in mind and what you know they would enjoy. One of the bonuses of experience gifts is that you can buy a experience gift voucher and allow the recipient to choose their own experience if you are unsure of what they would enjoy.

While the internet is buzzing with the upcoming “Bloggers Unite in Acts of Kindness”, scheduled for 12-17-07, I’ve made the personal decision not to participate. Discussions began amongst BlogCatalog bloggers, trying to make a decision about what bloggers should unite and blog about this time, in regards to a specific social cause. Ideas and suggestions were exchanged, ultimately leading to the decision for all to perform “acts of kindness” towards others offline, and then blog about it on December 17th of this year.

I had participated in “Bloggers Unite Against Abuse” not long ago, and that was something I felt very comfortable doing, having had past experiences of abuse and a desire to bring awareness to the issue. This latest blogging effort doesn’t feel right deep down in my heart and soul. The theme of “Bloggers Unite in Acts of Kindness” is explained this way:

The Acts of Kindness theme aims at putting a human face on the bloggers responsible for so much good in the world. The goal is to expose their kindness and generosity as well as serve as an example to non-bloggers that volunteering for a charity, donating to a cause, or simply doing something kind for another person has a ripple effect around the world.

“Maybe 20,000 bloggers, vloggers, photographers will make a difference.”

It’s the holidays. It doesn’t matter how big or how small your act of kindness is. All that matters is that we unite as bloggers on December 17th and each do something kind and then come back and share our experiences on our blogs.

Be creative, take photos, display the letter you wrote or the email you sent, show a video of yourself painting someone’s house, bringing some less fortunate a meal or gift. Share the smiles you create by capturing it in a photo or a poem…..then share your experience with the rest of us.

Amazing Prizes for Participating

While I have great respect and belief in the importance of doing “acts of kindness” towards others, regardless of the time of year, I have tremendous misgivings about broadcasting my own acts of kindness on my blog, for the whole world to read. For example, it is one thing for me to write about how kind Lucia has been towards me in our discussions regarding possibly moving my blogger blog to WordPress, or the kindness extended to me by Maurice for Stumbling my blog and suggesting I talk to Lucia. But, for me to write about the acts of kindness that I extend to others would be improper and screams of “Look at what I did!”, “See how great I am?!”, “Aren’t I Da Bomb?!

I can’t help but remember, “But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” The kindnesses I extend to others are not meant to be common knowledge, or plastered across the internet, but are known by those that matter most. The recipient and my God. There is no better prize than that for participating in acts of kindness.
