Morgan Freeman hasn’t even fully recovered from his recent car accident, but now there are reports that his wife of 24 years, costume designer Myrna Colley-Lee, is filing for divorce from the actor. Freeman and a female passenger, 48-year-old Demaris Meyer, were injured in Monday’s serious car accident, and rumors have been flying about the nature of their relationship.

Access Hollywood reports Freeman and his wife “are involved in a divorce action,” quoting the actor’s Mississippi-based attorney and business partner Bill Luckett told Access Hollywood.

“And for legal and practical purposes, [Freeman and Colley-Lee] have been separated since December of 2007.”

As previously reported, Morgan Freeman and Demaris Meyer were involved in a serious car accident near the actor’s Ruleville Mississippi home, in which the car left the road and flipped several times, pinning the actor in the car until help arrived. The jaws of life were used to remove both Freeman and Meyer from the smashed car.

Freeman and Meyer, who has been described as the actor’s friend, were reportedly on their way to Freeman’s home when the accident occurred. “Friends with benefits” perhaps? If so, what an awful way for their relationship to be made public, and the public embarrassment for Freeman’s wife.

Morgan Freeman, Oscar-Award winner actor, is in serious condition following a car accident near his Ruleville, Mississsippi home that he shares with his wife. Freeman, age 71, currently starring in the Batman blockbuster The Dark Knight was taken to the hospital on Monday.

Spokeswoman Kathy Stringer described Freeman’s condition following the accident to People magazine by saying, “All I can say is one word: His condition is serious.”

Freeman, who won an Academy Award for his role in 2004′s Million Dollar Baby, was driving the car at the time of the accident when the car left the road, flipped several times and pinned the actor and passenger in the car. Reports are that there is “no indication that either alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident”.

Morgan Freeman is being cared for at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. “Mr. Freeman was involved in an accident around 11:30 p.m. yesterday. The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Mississippi Highway 32 in Tallahatchie County” when the accident occurred, according to published police reports.

Ben Williams, Mississippi Highway patrol sergeant is quoted as saying “The vehicle ran off the edge of the road and began to flip several times,” he said. The doors of the 1997 Nissan Maxima were smashed and emergency crews had to use the jaws of life to extract the actor from the car.

Freeman was driving the car along with a female passenger named Demaris Meyer, to whom the car was registered. Sargeant Williams said both Freeman and Meyer were wearing seat belts and were airlifted to the Memphis’ Regional Medical Center following the crash.

TMZ.com has reported that the actor broke his shoulder and arm, but is expected to make a “good” recovery. Freeman’s publicist, Donna Lee, gave a statement saying “He is having a little bit of surgery this afternoon or tomorrow to help correct the damage, and added “He says he’ll be OK and is looking forward to a full recovery.”

Morgan Freeman is one of the best actors in Hollywood and I hope and pray he does make a full and complete recovery.
