The Fluoride Controversy: The Facts & The Fiction – by Paul G. Rubin, DDS, MIAOMT

There is a great deal of controversy about the effectiveness and the safety of fluoride, especially in the form of water fluoridation. The intent of this paper is to provide you with information you will need to make an informed decision about fluoride.

This information is based on valid scientific sources, and its basic premise of is that water fluoridation is ineffective at improving dental health, and does have the potential of adverse health effects (in other words, harm).

History of fluoridation

Water fluoridation began in the late 1940’s and 50’s after some preliminary studies were done that purportedly showed that a certain “optimal” level of fluoride (stated to be one part per million – 1ppm) in the drinking water led to decreased cavities in children. The testing protocols were quite flawed, and science gave way to politics.

Fluoride Filters – Reverse Osmosis Water Filters to Remove Fluoride in Drinking Water

Fluoride removal water filtration systems for home use is on many people’s minds, especially with the growing awareness of where fluoride comes from and the scientifically proven, documented harmful effects of ingesting fluoride long-term. Family members, friends and acquaintances know that I am vehemently opposed to fluoride in drinking water and all other sources of fluoride, including fluoridated toothpaste.

I spent weeks researching distillers and reverse osmosis systems that remove fluoride from drinking water, reading hundreds of reviews pro and con, as well as reading a variety of great books about contaminants in water and how to effectively remove those contaminants and fluoride from water.

Fluoride in Water – Removing Fluoride From Drinking Water in Dallas, Austin, Plano TX Cities

As subscribed readers and regular visitors know, I’ve been doing a great deal of research into the fluoride controversy, especially the controversy surrounding water fluoridation and where the fluoride added to water supplies actually comes from. Public awareness about fluoride in municipal water supplies, fluoride in bottled water etc is rapidly growing. That’s a very good thing.

When I research a topic, I spend alot of time digging deep into the subject, sometimes to the point of obsession. I make no apologies for doing whatever I can to help bring greater awareness to the fluoride debate, and the sooner every average citizen like myself decides to spend some time learning about water fluoridation and where the fluoride comes from, the better.

Water Fluoridation – Fluoride Facts, Toxic Fluoride in Water and Where Fluoride Comes From

When I began researching the controversy surrounding water fluoridation several months ago, and learned where fluoride comes from, I was not at all prepared to discover the real truth about fluoride. To say that I was shocked to learn what fluoride really is and how artificial, man-made (not naturally occurring) fluoride in drinking water, baby foods, infant formulas, baby nursery bottled water, juices, mouthwashes and processed foods is actually a toxic substance, is an enormous understatement.

A more accurate description of my reaction to learning about fluoride’s toxicity, its structure and well-documented harmful effects on the human body over time, is that everything I’ve been taught about fluoride and its claimed benefits as a dental professional, have been turned upside down and inside out.

The Alcoholic Who Still Suffers

As a grateful recovering alcoholic I have the blessing of seeing both sides of the disease of alcoholism. Many of “us” never have and never will, and it is for the alcoholic who still suffers that we A.A members have a moment of silence before the start of each meeting. We know what it’s like to have been there and humbly hope that everyone who suffers can share in our experience, strength, and hope that is only possible through recovery.

When I was caught in the grip of alcoholism there seemed to be no other way of dealing with life. Whether it was sadness, anger, or even celebration, alcohol was the medicine that magically made everything okay or even better. Naturally, if you know of only one thing to choose from there are no options available.

Give Up Coffee? Why Should I Stop Drinking Coffee?

My Coffee AddictionGive up coffee? Who, me? Why should I stop drinking coffee when I like the taste of coffee? Can someone really be addicted to caffeine in coffee? Maybe, maybe not, depending on which research studies and health experts you believe. Almost every morning I enjoy two or three cups of home-brewed coffee to start my day, and it’s not uncommon for me to have two more cups of coffee at night while writing or watching television, especially on cold winter nights.

If drinking a freshly brewed cup of coffee or two first thing in the morning doesn’t give you a jolt of energy to get your day started, reading the “evidence” about how caffeine is addictive and all the reasons why you or I should stop drinking coffee will be enough to give you jitters that last all day long. If the amount of coffee and tea I drink on a daily basis makes me a caffeine addict, then coffee addiction is an addiction I’m content to accept being what it is.

Are you a caffeine addict? Are you one of millions of Americans who kick-start their day getting a Starbucks coffee caffeine fix one or more times a day? I haven’t been to a Starbucks coffee shop in years because, as you know, you can make coffee at home and it’s a lot cheaper than buying coffee at 7-11 or Starbucks. I’m not even sure how much a cup of coffee at Starbucks costs these days, but I can think of many other more important things to do with my money than spending it on an expensive Starbucks latte or espresso.
