Kindle Christmas 2011 – New Kindle Fire Comes Out in Time for Christmas

With the new Kindle Fire coming out in time for Christmas this year, with a release date of November 21st, some are calling this year the “Kindle Christmas” and pre-ordering their new Kindle Fire now. As an avid book reader, none of the versions of the electronic Kindle thus far have caused me to want to move away from owning and holding the actual book itself, until now.

The new Kindle Fire has caught my attention due to the extremely low price of just $199.00, with free shipping for Amazon Prime Members, much cheaper than the extremely popular iPad. We don’t own an iPad and at this point have no interest in spending that kind of money on an electronic gadget when our laptops and computers work just fine. Having read numerous reviews about the Kindle, positive and negative, waiting for the latest and greatest version of the Kindle and seeing what options and apps are available seemed to be the wise choice.

Apple iPad Reviews – Is the Price of the iPad Worth the Hype?

When the Apple iPad was unveiled last week by Apple CEO Steve Jobs, gadget geeks were anxious to learn what all the hype was about. Who will want to buy the iPad and what all does it do? Is the iPad application device worth the hype that has been built up? Whether or not the iPad will crush or slay netbooks and e-readers like the Kindle remains to be seen. The iPad is an application device and not a computer or a laptop, so why there is talk about the iPad crushing netbooks sounds like nothing more than hype and geek jargon to me.

After reading a ton of pro and con reviews about the Apple iPad and watching video presentations, plus finding out from FOXNews that my already overloaded smartphone carrier AT&T will be providing services for the iPad, I’m underwhelmed. Some thought the iPad would be named the iTablet or the iSlate instead of something that conjures up thoughts of feminine hygiene products for women.

Oh, the iPad jokes took the net by storm, and hilarious they were for sure. Admittedly, the iPad is a good looking gadget, but who is the moron that came up with the goofy name? The cost of the iPad, a giant iPhone kind of gadget, is too rich for my blood. Unless Apple lowers the price. Yeah, right.

Kindle 2: Amazon’s New Kindle 2 Wireless Reading Device

kindle-2 Kindle 2: Amazon’s New Wireless Reading Device is being released on February 24, 2009, announced during an Amazon Press Conference. Kindle 2.0 is faster, lighter and slimmer than Kindle 1, measuring just over 1/3 of an inch and weighing just 10.2 ounces, which is thinner than most magazines and lighter than most paperback books.

Order the new Kindle 2 now while you have a chance to get a Kindle 2 before all the techies, gadget gurus and geeks buy them all and supplies run low. Orders for the Kindle 2 are on a first come, first serve basis, so be sure to reserve your spot in line.

Kindle 1 owners and users are being offered a special introductory opportunity by Amazon to be put on the priority list for shipment of the new Kindle, “Kindle 2″. Amazon.com says: “Place your Kindle 2 order by midnight PST on February 10th and you will receive first priority”.

Sadly, the price for Kindle 2.0 is still $359.00, the same price as the original Kindle. Kindle 2 has been upgraded with seven times more memory, 25% longer battery life, an upgraded design with round keys, a new joystick controller, kept its original Kindle black-and-white display, just to name a few of the new Kindle features. Kindle 2 is wireless, so there’s no need to hunt for any Wi-Fi hotspots. The new joystick-type controller will likely please original Kindle users who found the previous version a bit awkward.

I had hoped the price for the new Kindle would be reduced from its original version, and I held off buying the original Kindle because of the price, but this new Kindle 2 is one I just can’t pass up.

What about you? Are you going to buy the new Kindle? What are your thoughts on the price and new features of Kindle 2?
